The Wooden Bowl

BNG BLOG

Article Unkown, BabyNameGuide.com

A frail old man went to live with his son, daughter-in-law, and a four-year old grandson. The old man's hands trembled, his eyesight was blurred, and his step faltered. The family ate together nightly at the dinner table. But the elderly grandfather's shaky hands and failing sight made eating rather difficult. Peas rolled off his spoon onto the floor. When he grasped the glass often milk spilled on the tablecloth. The son and daughter-in-law became irritated with the mess. "We must do something about grandfather," said the son. I've had enough of his spilled milk, noisy eating, and food on the floor. So the husband and wife set a small table in the corner. There, grandfather ate alone while the rest of the family enjoyed dinner at the dinner table. Since grandfather had broken a dish or two, his food was served in a wooden bowl. Sometimes when the family glanced in grandfather's direction, he had a tear in his eye as he ate alone. Still, the only words the couple had for him were sharp admonitions when he dropped a fork or spilled food. The four-year-old watched it all in silence.

Consumer Alert from FDA, FDA.com

Do not feed the thickening product called SimplyThick to infants born before 37 weeks because it may cause a life-threatening condition.

This advice to parents, caregivers, and health care providers from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is based on reports of infants with necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) in which tissue in the intestines becomes inflamed and dies.

SimplyThick is a brand of thickening agent-available to consumers and medical centers-to help manage swallowing difficulties. It is sold in packets of individual servings and in 64-ounce dispenser bottles. The product can be purchased from distributors and local pharmacies throughout the United States.

Article by Joane Petrie, BabyNameGuide.com

My husband and I were talking about when we were expecting our first child and how excited we were. One day a family friend said, “WOW you’re really big, you must be ready to POP!” You can only imagine how depressed I was since I was only seven months along. It made me think, I’ve got two more months to go, how many more not so nice things am I going to hear. Every woman who has been, is or will be pregnant will run into that person that will say that thing that offends. I’m talking about that person who is trying to make a joke at your expense, insults you or has an opinion about YOUR pregnancy. So for all you ladies who are moms or moms to be, here is a list of some things that you never say to a pregnant woman. Some may be amusing and some are downright rude.

Praying With My Kids

Article by Gary Petrie, BabyNameGuide.com

While I was growing up, prayer was not a daily activity in my household. We prayed at the dinner table, and for years I thought that was the extent of prayer. “Let thy food be nourishment to my body”, which I never really understood. It really got confusing when we went out of the house to eat, because we never prayed. Did that mean the meal was not good for my body? It wasn’t until years later when I went golfing with a friend that praying over a meal made sense to me. Praying over a meal isn’t about the meal, but that fact we give thanks to the Lord for being involved in every area of our lives.
